Eugene, thanks for joining the blog today. Would you share what motivated you to write this trilogy?

Thinking more deliberately about what motivated me to create this trilogy, I can say it came down to three factors:
First, I love to write. After penning my "Clayton Sharp" series of five books, one might have thought that I was now "empty" of ideas and would be content to sit back and fade away. But just the opposite happened. My imagination started swirling with scenarios and soon, I was dusting off the keys to my computer and clicking away.
Second, I really came to draw close to a few of the fictional characters that appeared in the Clayton series: namely, Joe and Russ DiMarco, and the Kimball Brothers, Ben and Ward. The Di Marcos were too young to place in the "John Helper" series due to its taking place eleven years earlier than "Clayton Sharp," but the Kimballs were perfect. I felt Ward, in particular, should be brought out more, so this trilogy does that.
Third, the John Helper trilogy gave me another opportunity to create fresh storylines and a brand new cast of players. I think some of my best characters are in this series.
In conclusion, I've always set out--with each new story--to improve as a writer and to present a better book than the one I did before it. I truly hope those who read my books conclude I've done that. For me, writing is fun. When it isn't anymore, that's when I'll sit back and fade away."

BLURBS:
Three powerful journeys. One unforgiving frontier.

When two wagon trains reluctantly join forces on the perilous trek west, tensions ignite between Mormons and Missourians—and so does the killing. As suspicion spreads and danger closes in, former Mormon Battalion scout John Helper must solve a string of wagon train murders, protect a friend with a deadly secret, and face a Cheyenne warrior bent on destruction. But amid the violence, Helper finds an unexpected light: Sarah Boulet.

Separated from Sarah and haunted by her capture, Helper races north to stop a ruthless gang trafficking kidnapped women into the wilderness. The trail leads to a cold-blooded killer who sees death as art—and who will destroy everything if cornered. With help from loyal friends and one shocking ally, Helper must risk everything to save the woman he loves.

Now married and settled, John and Sarah face a different kind of threat—poisonous lies, hidden enemies, and a rising tide of violence. As dark forces close in on friends and family, and whispers of rebellion stir in the mountains, each must choose between safety and sacrifice. Because in the West, there comes a time for every soul to face its Moment of Reckoning.

This series sounds so exciting and I can’t wait to read the copy I ordered! I was a higher fan of the Clayton Sharp series.
